Does Aloe Vera help against exfoliative cheilitis?

Does Aloe Vera help against exfoliative cheilitis? Short answer: no.

But that may not be all. I bought an Aloe Vera Gel 100% at the apothecary. At the time I was having a bad time with my lips; burning red skin around, cracking, bleeding, the works. So maybe my skin was reacting badly to anything at all, even to products I have used before without problems, I have had that before. The gel is not like the fatty products I am using to keep my lips pliable. It dries up kind of like the Sahara does after rain: it cracks. Not a good  idea if the skin already is cracking.

So in order to get Aloe in, I mixed it with some cream which I previously have not reacted to. No use. I have used it for a week, which I think is long enough, and it is not working. First it got worse and then it slowly got a little better.

The problem I have is that I am not approaching this like a scientific experiment. I have too many variables. In order to judge the working of one ingredient, I need to keep everything else at a constant. And I have not reached that point yet. So any experiment is basically useless until I establish a base level.

The second point is: Aloe Vera gel and Aloe Vera Gel are not the same thing. I have had my own company before and actually grew and produced Aloe Vera by hand. This might work better than some factory-produced gel.

Bottom line: I am not giving up on the idea that Aloe Vera might help, but I need to find a more natural source of it. Since I can't grow it here in Sweden- or not in large enough amounts anyway.

      I have just bought an aloe plant and will make a bit of real natural gel and test it. The one I bought claims it's 100% gel. It is perfume free and does soothe the irritated skin under my nose but it does not help the lips. Still peeling every day, although I currently have no cracks. I would love to hear from somebody who has found something that works...

Hi!  Much has happened since my last post in this area.  I have had an allergy test ( 4 days with 2 large stickers on your back, no needles thank god) but was not allergic to anything (strange, I can think up some things though. Dishwashing liquid. Boring speakers. Delayed trains. A bank which cannot take cash. Anything which will put up my spikes.) I have been trying this product for a week now: APV Tentorium. An unknown cause of misery: exfoliative cheilitis (chronic peeling & cracking of the lips)

Hi! Latest updates are added below ; about how it is going with my treatment trials. Check it out now-I  may have found something! Today 7th of April I am on a health topic that has kept me continuously busy for 7 months now and I have finally found out what it is. In November 2015 my lips suddenly started cracking and peeling.  I thought it was just the cold here in Sweden, but I have never had it before in the 6 winters I have experienced here and the 13 winters I lived in the Netherlands. I used a lipstick ( Lipfinity , great durability!) at the time which I had been using for several years. I stopped using the lipstick and bought lip balm. When it just got worse I bought other lip balms , I have I think about 7 of them. None worked. Splitting nails

Hi! My yoga programme is still going strong. Doing 10-15 minutes first thing every morning really gets my energy levels up and my stress levels down. I wanted to take up another health problem. I have at times split nails, mostly the thumbs, and although it is a relatively small problem it can be very painful during a few days. I have done some research online; it is called onychoschizia and apparently it is very seldom due to a vitamin deficiency. If you have split nails on both hands and feet then it might be indicative of this. I do have two permanently split toe nails, but they are the second toes. They are the longest and therefore often the ones that I hit and they have the most pressure inside shoes. Therefore I think that with the toes it is a mechanical problem.
