Splitting nails

Image
Hi! My yoga programme is still going strong. Doing 10-15 minutes first thing every morning really gets my energy levels up and my stress levels down. I wanted to take up another health problem. I have at times split nails, mostly the thumbs, and although it is a relatively small problem it can be very painful during a few days. I have done some research online; it is called onychoschizia and apparently it is very seldom due to a vitamin deficiency. If you have split nails on both hands and feet then it might be indicative of this. I do have two permanently split toe nails, but they are the second toes. They are the longest and therefore often the ones that I hit and they have the most pressure inside shoes. Therefore I think that with the toes it is a mechanical problem. Not only do the nails split (both vertically but also horizontally) but the skin in the corners sometimes also splits and this is also very painful. With the vertically split nails it is very painful when it ...

Exfoliative cheilitis revisited and burning mouth syndrome

Image
HI! About a year ago, in November 2015, I developed cracked and peeling lips. Originally I thought it was because of the cold weather, although I have never had this before in 11 years of living in the Netherlands and 5 years of living in Sweden. But it did not disappear when I went back to the tropics for 5 weeks. I tried about a bucketful of different remedies. Finally in May I went to a doctor who analyzed some of the skin flakes that I kept peeling off (several cm2 a day!) and told me it was a fungus called Geotrichem, which is commonly found on your skin. No clue as to why it suddenly was a problem. I used Daktacort twice a day and it did kind of disappear over a 3-week period; however if I forgot the Daktacort for a day or two I would get it back. Since the beginning of October I have had it back in spite of continuous use of the Daktacort. Since it contains cortisone I have changed over to Daktarin which is a fungicide but with no cortisone. Last weekend it was so bad tha...

My cure for exfoliative cheilitis (chronic peeling and cracking of the lips)

Image
Hi! As I have written in another  post  I suffered from exfoliative cheilitis for 8 months. This is a chronic peeling and cracking of the lips. I also had a sore mouth on the inside and as a result of that, most of the day a burnt tongue, which made it difficult to eat. Furthermore on some days the skin around my lips would be red, swollen and itchy. The condition is painful, unsightly and definitely causes misery for the victim.                 In the other post I wrote about all the different cures I have tried; they would half fill a bucket! Creams and oils and lip balsam  and vitamins  and fish oil  and calendula salve (which did help a bit). Body Lotion Rose and Chamomile EO Products Everyday Rose and Chamomile Everyday Body Lotion For all skin types Paraben free Rose and Chamomile Everyday Body Lotion is a nourishing and protective moisturizer that applies easily...

An unknown cause of misery: exfoliative cheilitis (chronic peeling & cracking of the lips)

Hi! Latest updates are added below ; about how it is going with my treatment trials. Check it out now-I  may have found something! Today 7th of April I am on a health topic that has kept me continuously busy for 7 months now and I have finally found out what it is. In November 2015 my lips suddenly started cracking and peeling.  I thought it was just the cold here in Sweden, but I have never had it before in the 6 winters I have experienced here and the 13 winters I lived in the Netherlands. I used a lipstick ( Lipfinity , great durability!) at the time which I had been using for several years. I stopped using the lipstick and bought lip balm. When it just got worse I bought other lip balms , I have I think about 7 of them. None worked. Even worse, the skin around the lips became red and itchy and irritated and it is hard not to bite or scratch at it, which of course makes it worse. In addition the inside of my mouth is very tender and it feels like there is a h...
